NDT Technician

Position Summary

The NDT Assistant supports certified NDT Technicians in performing non-destructive testing (NDT) services in the field and shop environments. This entry-level role is responsible for preparing work areas, handling equipment, ensuring safety compliance, and learning the fundamentals of NDT methods. It is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience and work toward technician certification.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist NDT Technicians in conducting inspections such as RT, MT, PT, and UT thickness testing.

  • Set up and dismantle work areas, barricades, and signage in accordance with safety requirements.

  • Transport, handle, and prepare NDT equipment and consumables for use.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of job sites, trucks, and darkrooms.

  • Accurately record basic job information, data, and materials used.

  • Ensure compliance with all company safety, radiation, and client-specific procedures.

  • Perform general labor duties including lifting, carrying, rigging, and positioning of parts or test equipment.

  • Actively participate in training and development to progress toward NDT certification.

  • Support Technicians in maintaining calibration, storage, and care of inspection tools and equipment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Completion of 40-Hour Assistant Radiographer Course (must provide certificate).

  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

  • Ability to pass DISA background check, drug/alcohol testing, and client-specific requirements (TWIC, site orientations, etc.).

  • Must be safety-conscious and willing to work in demanding industrial environments.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in outdoor/industrial conditions.

  • Must be able to wear PPE including hard hat, respirator, lead apron, fall protection, etc.

  • Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and in various weather conditions.
